Turner was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1938. His father was a successful businessman, and his mother was a socialite. Turner attended Brown University, where he majored in classics. After graduating from Brown, Turner served in the U.S. Navy. He then went to work for his father's advertising agency.

In 1970, Turner bought a failing UHF television station in Atlanta, Georgia. He renamed the station WTCG and began broadcasting a mix of old movies, cartoons, and sports. Turner's station was a success, and he soon began expanding his reach. In 1976, he launched CNN, the first 24-hour cable news network. CNN was a huge success, and it quickly became one of the most popular cable channels in the world.

In the 1980s, Turner continued to expand his media empire. He launched TBS, a cable channel that featured classic movies and television shows. He also launched TNT, a cable channel that featured sports and movies.

In addition to his media empire, Turner is also a passionate conservationist. He is the founder of the Turner Foundation, a nonprofit organization that supports environmental causes. Turner has also been a vocal advocate for nuclear disarmament.

Ted Turner is a complex and fascinating figure. He is a brilliant businessman, a dedicated conservationist, and a generous philanthropist. His autobiography, Call Me Ted, is a must-read for anyone interested in his life and work.
