Roosevelt was born in Hyde Park, New York, on January 30, 1882. He was a healthy and active child, but in 1921, at the age of 39, he contracted polio. The disease paralyzed his legs and left him unable to walk. Roosevelt spent the rest of his life in a wheelchair.

Despite his disability, Roosevelt refused to give up on his dream of becoming president. In 1928, he was elected governor of New York. Four years later, he was elected president of the United States.

Roosevelt's presidency was a time of great change in America. He led the country through the Great Depression and World War II. He also signed into law the Social Security Act, which provides financial assistance to the elderly, disabled, and unemployed.

Roosevelt's legacy is one of hope and determination. He showed the world that it is possible to overcome adversity and achieve great things.

How FDR Overcame Polio

Roosevelt's recovery from polio was a long and difficult process. He spent months in a hospital, undergoing physical therapy and learning to use a wheelchair. He also had to learn how to deal with the stigma of disability.

Roosevelt's determination was unwavering. He refused to let polio define him. He was determined to live a full and active life, and he did.

Roosevelt's recovery from polio is an inspiration to us all. It shows us that anything is possible if we set our minds to it. We can overcome any obstacle if we have the courage and determination.
