The author was born into a well-to-do Jewish family in Vienna in 1927. She had a happy and secure childhood, surrounded by loving parents and siblings. But in 1938, everything changed when the Nazis annexed Austria.

The author's family was forced to flee Vienna, and they eventually made their way to the United States. The author was just eleven years old at the time, and she had to leave behind her home, her friends, and her entire way of life.

The author's family faced many challenges in the United States. They had to learn a new language, find a new home, and make new friends. But they also found a new sense of hope and opportunity.

The author's memoir is a moving and inspiring story of resilience, hope, and the power of the human spirit. It is a story that will resonate with anyone who has ever had to leave their home behind, and it is a story that will give hope to anyone who is facing challenges in their own life.
