Neruda was born in Parral, Chile, in 1904. His father was a railway worker and his mother was a teacher. Neruda's family was poor, and he often had to work to help support them. He began writing poetry at a young age, and his first book was published when he was just 19 years old.
Neruda's early work was influenced by the surrealism movement. However, he soon developed his own unique style, which was characterized by its lyrical beauty and its political commitment. Neruda was a passionate advocate for social justice, and his work often spoke out against poverty, oppression, and war.
In 1945, Neruda was elected to the Chilean Senate. He served in the Senate for two terms, and during this time he was a vocal critic of the government's policies. In 1948, Neruda was forced to flee Chile after he was accused of being a communist. He spent the next few years in exile, living in various countries around the world.
In 1952, Neruda returned to Chile. He continued to write poetry, and he also became involved in politics again. In 1970, Neruda was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. He died in Santiago, Chile, in 1973.
Neruda was a prolific writer, and he published more than 20 books of poetry during his lifetime. His work has been praised by critics for its beauty, its passion, and its political commitment. Neruda is considered to be one of the most important poets of the 20th century, and his work continues to be read and enjoyed by people all over the world.
