A Journey of Hope, Heartbreak, and Redemption

Orphan Trains Encounter Narrative Nonfiction Stories is a powerful and moving collection of true stories about the children who rode the orphan trains from the overcrowded orphanages of the East Coast to the vast frontiers of the Midwest and West. These stories are told from the perspectives of the riders themselves, as well as from the people who helped them along the way.

The orphan trains were a massive social experiment that began in the mid-1800s and lasted for over 70 years. During this time, more than 200,000 children were sent west on trains, in the hopes of finding new homes and families. The children came from all walks of life, but they all shared a common experience: they were alone and they were looking for a place to belong.

The stories in this book are both heartbreaking and hopeful. They are about children who were abandoned, abused, and neglected. They are about children who found new homes and families, and they are about children who were never able to find their place in the world. But through it all, these stories are about the power of the human spirit.

Orphan Trains Encounter Narrative Nonfiction Stories is a must-read for anyone interested in history, child welfare, or foster care. It is a book that will stay with you long after you finish it.
