About the Author
Maria Alyokhina is a Russian feminist activist and member of the Pussy Riot punk band. She was arrested and sentenced to two years in prison for her role in the band's performance inside Moscow's Cathedral of Christ the Savior. After her release from prison, she continued to speak out against Putin's government, and she was forced to flee Russia in 2017.
Alyokhina is a recipient of the Václav Havel Prize for Creative Dissent and the LennonOno Grant for Peace. She is the author of the book Riot Days.
