The Story
Gilly is a young Jewish boy living in Poland when the Nazis invade. He and his family are forced into a ghetto, where they are subjected to unimaginable hardship. Gilly's father is taken away and never returns. His mother and sister are also killed. Gilly is left alone and afraid.
One day, Gilly is rescued by a Polish woman named Irena Sendler. Irena is a member of the Polish resistance, and she risks her own life to save Jewish children. Gilly is taken to a safe house, where he is hidden from the Nazis.
Gilly spends the rest of the war in hiding. He witnesses the horrors of the Holocaust firsthand, but he also experiences the kindness and compassion of those who are willing to help.
The Themes
"Through Gilly Eyes" is a story about the Holocaust, but it is also a story about hope and resilience. Gilly is a young boy who has lost everything, but he never gives up hope. He believes that one day he will be reunited with his family, and he never stops fighting for his survival.
The book also explores the themes of good and evil. Gilly witnesses the horrors of the Holocaust, but he also experiences the kindness and compassion of those who are willing to help. He learns that even in the darkest of times, there is still hope.
