About the Author
Tetsu Kariya was born in Tokyo in 1932. He began photographing in high school, and he studied photography at the Nihon University College of Art. After graduating, he worked as a freelance photographer for several years. In 1959, he joined the Magnum Photos agency.
Kariya's work has been exhibited in museums and galleries around the world. He has also published several books of his work. In 2008, he was awarded the prestigious Hasselblad Award.
